Airlines don’t exactly have the best reputation nowadays. But Southwest is quickly becoming known for its hilarious flight attendants. One steward’s pre-flight safety demonstration has gone viral.
The unnamed flight attendant’s speech took place during a recent trip between San Francisco and Chicago. Right from the start, the Southwest Airline passengers knew this journey would be a bit different.
“In the event you haven’t been in an automobile since 1960, flight attendants still have to show you how to fasten a seatbelt,” the Southwest flight attendant began. “And that seatbelt needs to be low and tight across your hips just like the hot pink Speedo I’m gonna be wearing when I finally get the three of us to a hotel hot tub tonight.”
Right away, the Southwest flight attendant knew that his jokes might not appeal to everyone.
“Folks, if you don’t like the jokes or the service today, there are six ways out of this airplane; you feel free to use them,” the Southwest flight attendant continued in his safety demonstration.”
Based on the laughs from the Southwest airline passengers during the routine, we doubt any of them wanted to escape this attendant’s humor. And passenger David London, who posted the viral safety demonstration on YouTube, lauded the steward in the video’s description.
“I told him it was the most fun flight I ever took and thank you for going above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable and entertained,” London wrote of the Southwest flight attendant. “He threw a cocktail party ½ way through the flight as well. What a GEM he was!”
The Southwest flight attendant even made fun of his own airline during his safety demonstration. “Folks it’s $2,200 dollars for tampering with smoke detectors in the lavatory; and you know if you had $2,200 you’d be on United Airlines in first class,” he said.
But our favorite part of this Southwest flight attendant’s safety speech was his riff on passengers who chose to travel with young children.
“For those of you traveling with your children, why?” the Southwest employee said. “For those of you traveling with two of your children, what in the world were you thinking? But when those [oxygen] masks fall, you’ll want to put the mask on the bright one — that one’s going to contribute to your retirement most successfully.”

This sassy flight attendant is not the first Southwest steward to go viral this year. Back in April, Martha “Marty” Cobb’s hilarious pre-flight speech received more than 15 million views on YouTube.
“Position your seat belt tight and low across your hips, like my grandmother wears her support bra,” this Southwest flight attendant said.

“We’re a fun-loving airline,” Southwest spokesman Dan Landson told NBC. “We like to put fun in your travel.”
