Prom stabbing suspect was ‘funny and happy’ class clown

A Connecticut high school’s “class clown” showed no signs of snapping in the days before he turned class monster, allegedly plunging a knife into the neck of a girl who wouldn’t go to the prom with him.

Chris Plaskon, 16, was sometimes depressed and may have suffered from attention-deficit disorder, but he was generally a cheerful, adjusted kid, pals said.

“Chris was always funny and happy,” a close pal at Jonathan Law HS in Milford told The Post.

“He made everyone laugh,” said the friend, fellow junior Mick Murray, 16.

The boisterous teen — accused of stabbing classmate Maren Sanchez to death at the school Friday — loved drama club, playing football and being the center of attention, friends recalled.

“He was always kind of weird,” Murray said.

“But nothing that made me think he would do this.”

In fact, the only thing Plaskon’s friends and fellow students can point to as they struggle to understand the killing of Sanchez, a popular 16-year-old junior, was this: He had been obsessed with her for at least two years.

And he wouldn’t take no for an answer, even after Sanchez started dating Plaskon’s own close friend, hockey star Jarrod Butts, pals said.

“He seems like a nice guy, but he’s the class clown,” Sanchez’s best friend, Imani Langson, 16, said of Plaskon.

“Then, out of nowhere, he snaps and kills her. It’s obvious that he was planning this.”

Plaskon had allegedly asked Sanchez to prom on Friday morning, knife in hand, knowing she already had plans to go to the dance that night with Butts.

Plaskon remains under suicide watch at a psych ward, officials and his lawyer said Saturday.

Sanchez excitedly posted a picture in her dress on her high school’s prom Facebook page.

He’ll be held under a 15-day emergency commitment and may not appear in court on the pending murder charge until mid-May.

But a Milford Superior Court hearing — in which a judge could decide as early as next week to have him charged as an adult — could proceed in his absence, the lawyer said.

“His family is devastated, not only for him, but the youngster who was killed,” said the lawyer, Richard Meehan.

One former close friend, Tyler, told the Daily Mail that Plaskon tried to kill himself last year but called a friend at the last minute. The account was not verified by other friends.

Neighbors of the Plaskons described them as a model family.

Dad Dave owns a landscaping business. Mom Kathleen is a nursing administrator. Plaskon is the middle of five children.

The family’s upscale apartment building sits on a quiet street overlooking Laurel Beach, where Plaskon was often seen with a football, baseball and friends and siblings, neighbors said.

Plaskon’s youngest brother, Jack, was born with leukemia and has suffered multiple health problems since, neighbors said.

“We couldn’t see this one coming,” a neighbor said on Saturday. “Something was very wrong.”
