Lighten up, Texas – the “most comprehensive analysis of humorous cities ever attempted” was released this week, and the Lone Star State’s major cities fell short.
The Humor Research Lab at the University of Colorado – Boulder along with a few other collaborators, including a Texas AM marketing professor, crafted the list after months of research.

The study looked at factors like number of visits to Cheezburger comedy websites, number of comedy clubs per square mile, traveling comedians’ rating of each city’s comedy-club audiences, and number of famous funny tweeters living in the city per capita.
It was quite the undertaking. The study lasted nine months and yieled a list of 50 cities. Chicago came out on top as the funniest and Fort Worth landed in dead last. In fact, multiple Texas cities made it on the bottom of the list. Houston grabbed a middle-of-the-road spot at No. 37.
Perhaps the researchers just haven’t been down south enough to appreciate the humor.
