Rush Limbaugh: Stephen Colbert not funny, assaults ‘traditional American values’

The radio voice of the America right, Rush Limbaugh, on Thursday decried CBS for selecting of comedian Stephen Colbert to replace retiring David Letter as host of “Late Night.”

“CBS has just declared war on the heart of America,” Limbaugh declared. ”No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values. No it’s just wide out in the open.”

Limbaugh has himself used comedy to assault what critics say are genuine American values, from civil rights to women’s rights to conservation of the country’s environment.

But he sees nothing funny in the selection of Colbert, whose cable TV show “The Colbert Report” started out as a spoof of right-wing punditry, specifically “The O’Reilly Factor.”

“What this hire means is a redefinition of what is ‘funny’ and a redefinition of what is comedy,” said Limbaugh. ”It’s the media planting a flag here. I think it’s maybe the media’s last stand, but it’s a declaration.

“There’s no unity in this hire. They’ve hired a partisan, so-called comedian to run a comedy show.”

On Monday, Bill O’Reilly had at Colbert, likening him to “ideological fanatics” and saying he is a “deceiver” who is damaging America.

Colbert set off O’Reilly by lampooning BillO’s views on gender and marriage equality. “His analysis is delivered under the guise of comedy,” O’Reilly complained.  He described Colbert as “one of the biggest mouthpieces for the progressive movement.”
