Answer by Scott Aukerman, produced/ directed the interview, co-creator of Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, on Quora,
We heard a few months ago that the White House was interested making some videos with Funny or Die to promote the Affordable Care Act. Our “dream guest” has always been President Obama, so I attended as sort of “Ambassador to Ferns,” trying to coax the administration into thinking it was a good idea. We never thought it would happen.
Then, three weeks ago, we got a text from Mike Farah at Funny Or Die that “if it was ever going to happen, it was going to happen now,” and that we should prep.
Zach and I got together and furiously worked up a pitch of how we would do the video, and the White House, to our bewilderment, agreed that they should do it.
The whole thing is very crazy- we kept thinking it would be canceled at the last minute – even when we were inside the actual White House. But it happened, and now everyone can see our President’s comedy chops!
