We assume you’ve heard about the five stages of grief.
Well, one Twitter account went through the entire cycle on Wednesday: The Moscow News, which got the attention of the entire Internet with its hilarious tweets about Russia’s eventual loss to Finland in the quarterfinals of the Olympic hockey tournament in front of a dejected home crowd.
Before the grief began, there was some happiness:
GOAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!! Yeah Russia! Kovalchuk just scoooooooooooored! #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
Then Finland began scoring:
Oh dear. 1-1. Finland equalizes. #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
OH FOR GOD’S SAKE. 2-1. Finland scores. #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. 3:1 Finland scores again. #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
There was some denial in the form of wishing goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky started instead of Semyon Varlamov:
Is anyone else missing Bobrovski right now? Because we are. We are missing Bobrovski. #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
Some tweets that sounded angry came next:
Tyutin. Oh Tyutin. You can do better than that. #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
Honestly, it’s probably time to get Lipnitskaya out on the ice. She’s a solid gold talisman. #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
The 2nd period is over. Finland leads Russia 3:1. Don’t mind us. We’re going to go have a stiff drink. #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
That was mixed in with something that sounded like bargaining (okay, that’s a stretch, but still, great tweet):
How long do you think it will take for Russia to ban Finnish vodka? Just pointing out the obvious here. #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
Depression began to sink in next:
Russia vs. Finland feels like a deleted scene from “Armageddon” to us right now. #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
Russia, you are breaking our heart. Or cutting it out with a dull spoon. Or something equally horrific. #hockey #Sochi2014
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
When the horn sounded, Moscow News’ entire office hit the final stage together: Acceptance:
Russia has lost 1:3 to Finland. Russia will not medal. This is our office right now. #hockey #Sochi2014 pic.twitter.com/oSfkjBLXG2
— The Moscow News (@themoscownews) February 19, 2014
Friends, we’re done for the day. Your commentator was @NataliaAntonova. Am going to go listen to a lot of Muddy Waters. #hockey #Sochi2014
