With the start of the Winter Olympics
just hours away, you’ve probably heard all about the “readiness problems”
facing Sochi. Hundreds of media members and athletes have posted images to
social media and the pictures are often amusing, if not disconcerting. Hotels
are not fully operational – and in some cases, not even structurally sound. The
Olympic zone still looks like a construction area. Athletes’ luggage has been lost.
But amid the pictures of chaos and
confusion, there are also images of sheer beauty. For every broken curtain and
questionable toilet sign, there are also breathtaking views of the Black Sea
and snow-capped mountains.
Behold – a juxtaposition of various
images posted to Twitter from journalists and others scoping out the resort
town of Sochi.
